He is by far the most 'UNDERRATED PERFORMER,' from New Orleans. Awood Johnson was born in 1968 and was better known by his stage name 'Mr. Magic' or 'Mr. I Smoke, I Drank.' Mr. Magic was best known for his stint with No Limit Records in the late 1990's.
Magic grew up in the Ninth ward of New Orleans, and first made a name for himself in New Orleans' underground circuit before signing to No Limit at the request of C-Murder (Master P's Brother). Magic made his initial appearance in 1998 on C-Murders song 'Picture Me.' After releasing his third album 'White Eyes,' in 2003, along with the departure of many of No Limits artist, Mr. Magic severed his ties with No Limit and later criticized Master P for his business practices. He released his fourth album under Koch Records 'On My Own,' five months after leaving No Limit Records.
Magic then joined fellow New Orleans rapper/native Choppa and former boxing champion Roy Jones Jr., and formed the group Body Head Bangerz, who released their album in 2004 which had a hit, 'I Smoke, I Drank.' At the time of his death he was signed with BANX Entertainment and was pushing his single,'B*tch, You Must Be Crazy!,' which is definitely a CLUB BANGER produced by Rodnae of SOUFMADE Ent.
UNDERRATED
A performer in his own right Mr. Magic pushed the limits of each performance. Guaranteed to capture his audiences attention with his street appeal and racy but 'true' lyrics. During the last couple of years BANX Entertainment (CEO Fredrick Johnson) has been pivotal in rebuilding the success of the rapper as his talent has been 'underrated.' His songs and lyrics coupled with his production and performances surpassed many of the rap artist who receive radio play and millions of youtube hits today.
On March 1, 2013, Mr. Magic was killed in a vehicle accident in Mississippi while headed to a show. He was traveling with his wife and daughter and was scheduled to open for Rick Ross later this month. His daughter is said to be the only survivor. Mr. Magic will definitely live on through his music. His presence will be GREATLY missed.
